Sending a parcel from Georgia to Denmark

For Georgians living in Denmark, receiving a parcel from home is often a simple way of keeping a connection to family, friends and the place they came from.

You give us the parcel and the details we need, and we help organise the process of getting it to Denmark.

Denmark — the krone and the DKK 360 threshold

Denmark is a member of the European Union but not of the eurozone — its currency is the Danish krone. EU customs rules apply to a parcel sent from Georgia, and the Danish Customs Agency publishes the gift threshold in kroner. The standard VAT rate in Denmark is 25%.

According to the Danish Customs Agency (Toldstyrelsen), customs duty and VAT are payable on a gift from a private individual if its value is more than DKK 360. Shipping costs are not counted when assessing the threshold. On alcohol, tobacco and perfume, VAT is always payable, even on a gift.

The carrier calculates and declares the duty and may charge a fee for doing so — the Agency says it has no influence on that fee.

That is why it helps if the recipient knows in advance what is in the parcel and what it is worth — if the gift is worth more than DKK 360, it is the recipient who pays the duty.

How much does it cost to send a parcel to Denmark?

The cost depends on the weight of the parcel and the rate in force.

What to know before sending to Denmark

Below are the official European Union rules that apply when a parcel is received. These are not Parcello's own terms.

  • Denmark has the right to stay outside the eurozone

Denmark joined the European Union in 1973 but has not introduced the euro — the EU Treaty gives Denmark the right to remain outside the euro area even if it meets all the criteria. Its national currency is the Danish krone (DKK). Since 1 January 1999 the krone has taken part in the European exchange rate mechanism (ERM II), at a central rate of €1 = 7.46038 kroner with a narrow fluctuation band of ±2.25%.

  • VAT rate

The standard VAT rate in Denmark is 25%.

  • The gift threshold is DKK 360

According to the Danish Customs Agency (Toldstyrelsen), customs duty and VAT are payable on a gift sent by a private individual from outside the EU if its value is more than DKK 360. Shipping costs are not counted when assessing the threshold. A consignment counts as a gift if it is sent occasionally, contains only goods for the personal use of the recipient or their family, and the recipient pays nothing for it.

  • The carrier calculates the duty

According to the Danish Customs Agency, the carrier calculates and declares the customs duty and VAT on a gift and may charge a fee for doing so — the Agency has no influence on that fee. On alcohol, tobacco and perfume, VAT and possibly special duties are always payable, even when the item is a gift.

  • Parcels go through customs

Georgia is not a member of the European Union, so a parcel sent to Europe goes through customs when it enters the EU. The recipient may be charged value added tax (VAT) and, in some cases, customs duty as well.

  • Gifts under €45 are exempt

When one private individual sends a parcel to another for personal or family use and its value does not exceed €45, the consignment is exempt from customs duty and VAT. The relief applies only to occasional, non-commercial gifts — a birthday parcel, for example. If the value exceeds €45, VAT is charged on the whole consignment.

  • A new rule applies from 1 July 2026

The European Union has abolished the customs duty exemption for consignments valued under €150. In its place, from 1 July 2026 a flat customs duty of €3 applies, calculated per tariff line rather than per parcel. The rule is aimed primarily at consignments from online shopping and is temporary — it runs until 1 July 2028.

  • Separate rules apply to alcohol and tobacco

Gift relief does not fully cover alcohol and tobacco: VAT and excise duty are charged on these products regardless. Relief from customs duty applies only to strictly limited quantities — 50 cigarettes, or one litre of spirits, for example.
